If you have 5.40+, you&#8217;ll create a <em>Recipient<\/em>. With your camera&#8217;s web interface open to the <em>Setup<\/em>\u00a0page, select <strong>Events<\/strong>\u00a0in the navigation bar to the left.<\/p>\n<p>2. In the window that opens, select <strong>Recipients<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>3. Select <strong>Add<\/strong>. Here you&#8217;re going to enter your instance of Device ManageR to receive TCP notifications:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">&#8211; In <em>Name<\/em>, enter a name for your recipient. With your camera&#8217;s web interface open to the <em>Setup<\/em>\u00a0page, select <strong>Event Config<\/strong>\u00a0in the navigation bar to the left.<\/p>\n<p>2. In the window that opens, select <strong>Event Servers<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>3. Select <strong>Add TCP<\/strong>. Note that Axis is deprecating built-in motion detection and replacing it with the Video Motion Detection application.<\/p>\n<h4 style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Firmware 5.80 and higher<\/h4>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\">5.80+ has only Video Motion Detection available.* This firmware\u00a0automatically installs the Video Motion Detection application on your camera and removes built-in motion detection.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\"><em>*An exception to this would be if you had a motion detection event already set up on built-in motion detection and then upgraded to 5.80 or higher. In that case, you would still have built-in motion detection available; however, you would not be able to configure the Motion Detection window, which would still be removed.<\/em><\/p>\n<h4 style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Firmware from 5.40 to pre-5.80<\/h4>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\">5.40 to pre-5.80 can have both built-in motion detection and Video Motion Detection available. (You may manually install Video Motion Detection starting with 5.40.) Even though both built-in and Video Motion Detection may be available on the camera, you should use only one of them.<\/p>\n<h4 style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Firmware prior to 5.40<\/h4>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\">Pre-5.40 firmware has\u00a0only built-in motion detection available.<\/p>\n<h5>Select\u00a0the tab below that matches the type of motion detection you wish to use.<\/h5>\n<div class=\"su-tabs su-tabs-style-default su-tabs-mobile-stack\" data-active=\"1\" data-scroll-offset=\"0\" data-anchor-in-url=\"no\"><div class=\"su-tabs-nav\"><span class=\"\" data-url=\"\" data-target=\"blank\" tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\">Video Motion Detection<\/span><span class=\"\" data-url=\"\" data-target=\"blank\" tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\">Built-in Motion Detection<\/span><\/div><div class=\"su-tabs-panes\"><div class=\"su-tabs-pane su-u-clearfix su-u-trim\" data-title=\"Video Motion Detection\">\n<h4>These instructions apply to Video Motion Detection settings.<\/h4>\n<p>You may configure\u00a0Axis Video Motion Detection application settings or simply leave them at defaults. To view or configure them:<\/p>\n<p>1. With your camera&#8217;s web interface open to the <em>Setup<\/em>\u00a0page, navigate to\u00a0<strong>Applications<\/strong>\u2192<strong>Motion Detection<\/strong> in the navigation bar to the left.<\/p>\n<p>2. If you make any changes, be sure to select <strong>Save<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>5. Select <strong>Close<\/strong> to dismiss the window.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"su-tabs-pane su-u-clearfix su-u-trim\" data-title=\"Built-in Motion Detection\">\n<h4>These instructions apply to the camera&#8217;s built-in Motion Detection.<\/h4>\n<p>If you&#8217;re using built-in Motion Detection, you must configure a Motion Detection window\u00a0in order to later set up your Action Rule or Event Type.<\/p>\n<p>1. With your camera&#8217;s web interface open to the <em>Setup<\/em>\u00a0page:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">&#8211; Navigate to\u00a0<strong>Detectors\u2192Motion Detection<\/strong>\u00a0in cameras with firmware versions 5.40\u00a0to pre-5.80.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">or<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">&#8211; Navigate to<strong> Event Config\u2192Motion Detection<\/strong>\u00a0in cameras with firmware below 5.40.<\/p>\n<p>2. When you attempt to\u00a0view the Motion Detection window, you may see an error message. If you do\u2014or if you otherwise cannot properly view the window\u2014you&#8217;ll need to add your camera&#8217;s IP address to IE&#8217;s Compatibility View settings:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">&#8211; In Internet Explorer, select <strong>Tools<\/strong> from IE&#8217;s\u00a0menu at the top of the page.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">&#8211; Then select <strong>Compatibility View settings<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">&#8211; In <em>Compatibility View Settings <\/em>dialog box, type the IP address of your camera in <strong>Add this website<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">&#8211; Then select <strong>Add<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">&#8211; Finally, select <strong>Close<\/strong> to dismiss the dialog box.\u00a0You should then be able to see the Motion Detection window and settings.<\/p>\n<p>3. In the\u00a0<em>Motion Detection<\/em> window, leave <strong>Configure Included Windows<\/strong> selected, which is the default.<\/p>\n<p>4. In <em>Windows Name<\/em>, select <strong>New<\/strong>. A new &#8216;default window&#8217; will appear.<\/p>\n<p>5. Use your mouse to drag the window to the size and position you want it to be. In our example, we are sizing the window to match the entire image.<\/p>\n<p>6. In the &#8216;default window&#8217; line item, name your window. In our example, we&#8217;re calling\u00a0it &#8216;Office Door &#8211; Motion Detection Window.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>7. Your window comes with a default <em>Object Size<\/em> (15), <em>History<\/em> (90) and <em>Sensitivity<\/em> (90). You may leave the default values, or choose your own using the slider. In our example, we&#8217;ve left the defaults for <em>Object Size<\/em> and <em>History<\/em>, but increased the <em>Sensitivity<\/em> to 95.<\/p>\n<p><em>For more information about the features of the Motion Detection window, select the question mark <a href=\"http:\/\/avtech.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/Axis_Help_QuestionMark_Icon.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-7036\" src=\"http:\/\/avtech.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/Axis_Help_QuestionMark_Icon.png\" width=\"20\" height=\"19\" \/><\/a>\u00a0icon in your camera&#8217;s web interface.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>8. In the drop down-menu that appears, select <strong>VMD 3 <\/strong>or<strong> VideoMotionDetection\u00a0<\/strong>depending on which Video Motion Detection\u00a0version you have installed. (It may already be selected for you.)<\/p>\n<p>8. In <em>Active<\/em> (or\u00a0<em>Motion Detected)<\/em>, leave the default, <strong>Yes<\/strong>, selected.<\/p>\n<p>9. In <em>Schedule<\/em>, select <strong>Always (No Schedule)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>10. Leave <em>Additional conditions<\/em> blank, which is the default.<\/p>\n<p>11. In <em>Wait at least<\/em>, enter 00:00:02.<\/p>\n<p>12. In <em>Type<\/em>, select <strong>Send Notification<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>13. In the drop-down menu that appears, select the recipient you made earlier.<\/p>\n<p>14.
